Stacks Book Club is fulfilling Jeffrey-Franco’s dream to bring locals together for an intimate reading and social setting. Owners Crispin and Lizzy Jeffrey-Franco opened their doors last Saturday to the Oro Valley Marketplace location, and have much to offer patrons, including a full coffee bar, a selection of fiction, non-fiction, romance, and children’s books, as well as local brews and wines, grab-and-go foods, and a children’s area featuring bilingual stories.
Stacks Book Club Opens its Doors in Oro Valley Marketplace
Tucsonans Crispin and Lizzy Jeffrey-Franco’s dream of opening a community book bar to bring locals together to read, sip, and enjoy each other’s company came to fruition last weekend. Stacks Book Club opened its doors last July in the Oro Valley Marketplace at 1880 E. Tangerine Road Suite 140 with great success.
Your One-Stop Shop for Books, Beverages, and Bites
Stacks Book Club, co-owned by Crispin Jeffrey-Franco, is prepared to open its doors and provide something for everyone. From the expansive selection of fiction, non-fiction, romance, and children’s books, to the full-service coffee bar featuring Yellow Brick Coffee and fresh-baked goods from Bubbe’s Bagels, Cal’s Bakeshop, and Prep & Pastry, there are options available for every patron. Those looking for local brews or wines can find them here as well, along with grab-and-go food from Flora’s Market Run. Stacks also hopes to provide a place for the community to gather and connect, whether that be through book discussions, PTA meetings, high school reunions, or just general get-togethers.
An area for children featuring bilingual story-telling events is also part of the plan, ensuring that everyone will find something to enjoy at Stacks.
Years in the Making
It is with immense pride that Crispin Jeffrey-Franco prepares for the grand opening of Stacks Book Club, 1880 E. Tangerine Road. It has been years in the making, beginning with a simple email to a dozen friends in the winter of 2016 and quickly growing into a club with 20 people discussing Ernest Cline’s “Ready Player One” in the first meeting. The novel’s main character living in a village called the Stacks inspired the book club’s name. Crispin hopes that everyone who visits Stacks Book Club leaves with the thought, “I can’t wait to come back!”
The Jeffrey-Francos returned to Tucson in 2019 and succeeded in keeping their club alive. Taking advice from a Startup Tucson coach, they started small and hosted pop-up events at local restaurants and businesses. This was the best decision they could have made, as it revealed the community’s desperate need for an independent bookstore like the one they had in mind. Through nearly 11 months of hosting pop-ups, they gained invaluable experience which enabled them to qualify for an SBA-guaranteed loan. This proved to be an incredibly crucial step towards making their dream a reality.
After months of construction, the Jeffrey-Francos are proud to announce the opening of the Stacks Book Club. The space is complete with a writer’s nook, des,k, and old manual typewriter, providing an inclusive atmosphere for visitors to explore, create,e, and connect.
